Name
They Aren't Just Oversized Children: Supporting Adult IEM Patients Through Life Stage Transitions
Description
Those affected by inborn errors of metabolism are aging, but existing care models typically focus on pediatric patients and do not support the needs of adult patients. With each later stage of life, e.g., college, young adulthood, geographic relocation, parenthood, perimenopause, menopause, geriatric age, come new sets of obstacles. We propose a broad discussion that revolves around tools and models to prepare adolescent IEM patients for adulthood and improve the experiences of adult IEM patients through life transitions.
This workshop occurs on Friday from 1:30 - 2:30pm and is repeated from 3:30 - 4:30pm.
