Karen Casey is a newly credentialed Registered Dietitian in her first year of practice. This is her second career, her first was as an engineer for a major aerospace company. She retired from that career after 29 years as a Technical Director for a $2B business responsible that developed space satellite ground systems. During her career she obtained the title of Engineering Fellow – a distinction given to only the top 1% of the technical staff. She has done original research in automata theory, discrete mathematics and human interface design. She has won numerous national and local awards for mentoring, engineering and public speaking. She has a Master of Science in mathematics, and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with a minor in counseling. She has volunteered as a mentor for the National PKU Alliance since 2020. The workshop she is hosting at GMDI is the result of an adult, PKU return to care project that she completed during the community rotation of her RD internship. On a personal note, she is absolutely convinced that being a Registered Dietitian is harder than being an Aerospace Engineer.
